BIOGRAPHY
Mischa Cheung studied with Prof. Konstantin Scherbakov at the Zurich University of the Arts and has taken up a busy career bringing him to many concert stages and festivals throughout the world. He is a member of the Gershwin Piano Quartet, a highly praised ensemble which performs spectacular arrangements on four pianos and released its album “Transatlantiques” with Sony Classical in 2018. Mischa Cheung plays solo and chamber music recitals and regularly performs as a soloist at the Symphonic Game Music Concerts directed by the Merregnon Studios. This concert series has e.g. taken him to tour Japan with the London Symphony Orchestra and he has also appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In 2023 he played the solo part at the recording of the album "Final Symphony II" with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also worked together with the renowned choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis composing and playing the music of transdisciplinary works commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art New York and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2019 his recording of the piano concerto by Friedrich Gulda was released by Solo Musica receiving much critical acclaim. He was a member of the ECHO-award winning ensemble Spark from 2011 until 2015 and took part in extensive concert tours and numerous radio, tv and cd productions including recordings for Deutsche Grammophon and Berlin Classics. Mischa Cheung teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts and after being assistant to the masterclass of Prof. Konstantin Scherbakov for many years he has recently been appointed a lecturer for piano and improvisation.
Mischa Cheung studierte bei Prof. Konstantin Scherbakov an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste und übt heute eine umfangreiche Konzerttätigkeit aus, die ihn an renommierte Konzerthäuser und Festivals in viele Länder der Welt führt. Er ist Pianist des Gershwin Piano Quartet, das mit spektakulären Arrangements für 4 Flügel für Aufsehen sorgt und 2018 das Album „Transatlantiques“ bei Sony Classical veröffentlichte. Bei den Symphonic Game Music Concerts der Merregnon Studios tritt er als Solist auf und konzertierte u.a. mit dem London Symphony Orchestra, dem Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Beethoven Orchester Bonn, sowie dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. 2023 übernahm er den Solopart bei der Aufnahme des Albums "Final Symphony II" mit dem Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Choreographin Alexandra Bachzetsis war er als Pianist und Arrangeur an transdisziplinären Werken im Auftrag des Museum of Modern Art New York und des Art Institute of Chicago beteiligt. Im Jahr 2019 erschien seine vielbeachtete erste Studioaufnahme des Klavierkonzerts von Friedrich Gulda bei Solo Musica. Von 2011 bis 2015 gastierte er als Pianist des Ensembles Spark bei vielen internationalen Konzertreihen und wirkte bei Radio-, TV-, und CD-Produktionen, u.a. für die Deutsche Grammophon und Berlin Classics mit. Zudem pflegt er eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem gemeinnützigen Schweizerischen Verein #guerillaclassics, bei dessen innovativen Konzertformaten er regelmässig auftritt. Mischa Cheung war langjähriger Assistent der Meisterklasse von Prof. Scherbakov und wurde 2022 von der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste zum Dozenten berufen. 2019 erhielt er den Kulturpreis (Sparte Musik) des Kantons Basel-Land.
